Election Scandal Brews In Kano As NNPP Alleges INEC Twisted Re-Run Results
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has outrightly rejected the results of the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Assembly re-run election, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding with politicians to manipulate the process in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to journalists in Kano, the NNPP chairman, Comrade Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, alleged that INEC robbed voters of their rights by declaring the APC candidate winner despite clear irregularities.
He explained that the re-run was meant to hold in 10 polling units earlier nullified by the Court of Appeal, but INEC allegedly disregarded the fresh results from those units and instead relied on the previously faulted outcome.
“In Ghari Local Government, the re-run took place peacefully at the 10 affected polling units, but through the connivance of certain politicians with INEC officials, the APC candidate was declared winner,” Dungurawa claimed.
The NNPP further criticized INEC’s decision to announce the result at its Kano State headquarters instead of the constituency collation centre, describing it as a deliberate attempt to open the process to manipulation.
According to the party, presiding officers at the polling units had already signed the results, which should have been respected.
Dungurawa vowed that the NNPP would not relent in resisting what it described as “injustice, favouritism, and electoral fraud.”
“We will not sit idly while the will of the people is subverted,” he declared.
Nonetheless, the party commended the conduct of the Shanono/Bagwai bye-election, where its candidate emerged victorious, praising the process as free, fair, and credible.
It also lauded security agencies for maintaining order and applauded voters for their courage and turnout.
As of the time of this report, neither INEC nor the APC had responded to the NNPP’s allegations.
