Emerging List Reveals Governors Backing And Opposing Damagum’s RemovalThe internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to escalate, resulting in a significant rift among governors affiliated with the party. Tensions heightened on Friday as the PDP’s national leadership split into two factions, led by Yayari Mohammed and Umar Damagum.

This division follows the controversial suspension of the party’s National Legal Adviser, Adeyemi Ajibade, and National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, by the Damagum faction during the 593rd meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC). In response to these suspensions, Abdullahi and Okechukwu Osuoha were appointed to serve in acting roles.

The situation further deteriorated when Ologunagba announced the suspension of Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, citing various complaints against them. This turmoil comes just ahead of a scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on October 24, intended to elect a substantive national chairman to succeed Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, after which Damagum was expected to return to his position as National Vice Chairman (North).

Reports indicate that the move to oust Damagum has polarized the PDP governors. The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, who is also the Governor of Bauchi State, leads a faction of six governors advocating for Damagum’s removal. This group includes Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno.

Conversely, four governors, led by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, are opposing Damagum’s ouster. Joining Makinde in this stance are Governors Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, and Agbu Kefas of Taraba State.

Notably, two out of the 13 governors remain neutral in the conflict: Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.
