Eno Clarifies Daughter’s Appointment As Coordinator Of First Lady’s OfficeAkwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has refuted a media report (not from The PUNCH) claiming that his first daughter, Mrs. Helen Obareki, has been appointed as the First Lady of the state.

The PUNCH reports that Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, the governor’s wife, passed away on September 26, 2024, surrounded by her family at a hospital.

During a condolence visit by the Wife of the President, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Eno explained that his daughter, who had served as the Special Assistant to his late wife, was well-placed to coordinate the Office of the First Lady. He described this arrangement as a natural progression rather than a politically motivated decision.

Speaking at the All Nations Christian Ministry Intl in Eket, the governor emphasized that having his daughter oversee the office would help the family heal, ensure its continued operation, and provide him with comfort. He clarified that First Ladies are not appointed, and it was both appropriate and comforting for Mrs. Obareki, who had been closely assisting her late mother, to manage the office’s projects.

Governor Eno reiterated his commitment to his wife’s initiatives, particularly the “Golden Initiative For All” and other programs benefiting women, the elderly, and vulnerable groups. He noted that Mrs. Obareki’s experience and proximity to the family made her the ideal person to maintain and expand these projects.

“For clarity, First Ladies are not appointed; they come with the governor. My daughter, Mrs. Helen Obareki, will coordinate the Office of the First Lady. She was by her mother’s side from the start, and the First Lady of the Nation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, acknowledged her role,” he said, stressing that this decision was not political but a natural extension of her previous responsibilities.

Governor Eno prayed for wisdom and support for his daughter to ensure that her mother’s programs thrive and evolve. He expressed confidence in her ability to bring innovation and continuity to the office.

The governor also thanked Mrs. Tinubu for her timely visit and endorsement of Mrs. Obareki’s role. He expressed gratitude to the church for their comforting words and urged them to find solace in their faith.
