Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has cautioned Nigerian politicians against turning every national issue into a political contest, saying the practice is harmful to the country’s democratic system.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The governor’s remarks followed a recent decision by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, which set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.

The ruling has sparked widespread political debate, with some stakeholders accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of influencing the outcome.

Reacting to the controversy during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, Sani urged political actors to respect judicial decisions and avoid politicising court rulings.

He argued that politicians often praise the judiciary when judgments favour them but quickly condemn the courts whenever decisions go against their interests.

According to the governor, several figures associated with the NDC have previously benefited from judicial interventions, including the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Sani said those who believe in democracy and the rule of law must be careful not to undermine public confidence in the judiciary by treating every legal decision as a political issue.

He recalled that Peter Obi himself secured a landmark judicial victory during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, noting that the judiciary has consistently played an important role in protecting democratic rights.

The governor maintained that political leaders should approach judicial outcomes with consistency and avoid selective support for the courts based on personal or partisan interests.
