Enough Of The Grudge! Orji Kalu Urges Gov Lawal To Reunite With Tinubu For Zamfara’s Sake

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has urged Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, to reconcile with President Bola Tinubu for the benefit of the people of Zamfara. Kalu cautioned that continued political tension between the governor and the president could cost the state valuable development opportunities.

He issued this advice while commissioning the newly built Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, as well as the renovated Zamfara College of Arts and Science in Gusau, the state capital.

Kalu emphasized that his message was not a call for the governor to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but rather to establish a cooperative and respectful working relationship with the president.

Drawing from his own political experience, the former Abia governor, who served from 1999 to 2007, recalled maintaining a cordial relationship with Tinubu—then governor of Lagos under the Alliance for Democracy (AD)—despite belonging to different parties.

“The president is more than a political ally; he is family,” Kalu said. “Our relationship began long before we both held office. My children even lived in his home and were raised under the care of Mrs. Tinubu while schooling in Lagos.”

He continued, “Whatever political disagreements we had are now in the past. I urge you to put your differences aside and do the same. You can remain PDP, but also focus on economic collaboration for the sake of Zamfara’s development.”

Kalu encouraged Governor Lawal to embrace what he termed “political economics” in order to attract more federal funding for infrastructure and growth in the state.

“Once you abandon economic diplomacy for political rivalry, everyone loses—especially the people of Zamfara. Focus on securing federal resources. Political ego should never stand in the way of development,” Kalu stressed.

He also called on Governor Lawal and former Governor Abdul’aziz Yari to unite and prioritize the progress and welfare of Zamfara’s citizens.
