Viral reports claimed that the hacking resulted in the theft of 1.09 billion naira from the Enugu State treasury, a claim the police headquarters in Abuja described as unfounded and lacking factual support.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that an investigation conducted by the NPF’s National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC) revealed that the theft was not due to a cyber breach but rather a case of procurement fraud.
The statement also noted that a suspect has been apprehended in Enugu State in connection with the fraud, and the stolen funds have been successfully recovered by the state government.
The force headquarters in Abuja further emphasized, “The Enugu State Government, along with other ministries, departments, agencies, and corporate entities, is collaborating with the NCCC to implement robust security measures to protect their financial systems.
