Enyimba In Crisis As Sporting Lagos Seal Fourth Consecutive Loss

Sporting Lagos staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Enyimba 3-2 in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter on Wednesday, September 23, handing the nine-time champions their fourth consecutive defeat of the season.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Enyimba took the lead shortly before half-time through Stanley Dimgba, who found the net in the 44th minute. However, Sporting Lagos responded strongly after the break to turn the match around.

Abdullahi Abdulraqeeb restored parity for the visitors six minutes into the second half before Tobi Ige Iyanda put Enyimba back in front from the penalty spot in the 54th minute.

Sporting Lagos refused to surrender and continued to push for an equaliser. Haruna Hadi eventually levelled the scores in the 65th minute before substitute Daniel Aboh completed the comeback four minutes later, giving the Lagos side a 3-2 victory.

The defeat leaves Enyimba without a point from their opening four league matches and at the bottom of the NPFL table. The result also represents their second consecutive home defeat after they previously lost 1-0 to Inter Lagos at the Enyimba Stadium.

The poor run marks Enyimba’s worst start to a top-flight campaign in 27 years, according to the Nigeria Premier Football League. The club had earlier suffered defeats against Niger Tornadoes and Doma United before losing to Inter Lagos and Sporting Lagos.

For Sporting Lagos, the victory provided a strong response after their 2-0 home defeat to Abia Warriors in their previous fixture. The result also moved the newly promoted side into the middle region of the league standings.

Elsewhere, Barau FC moved to the top of the NPFL table after defeating Abia Warriors 2-0 in Kano. Joseph Atule opened the scoring in the 22nd minute before Ibrahim Ayoola doubled the advantage in the 61st minute. Barau remained unbeaten after five matches and moved onto 11 points.

Doma United dropped from the top position after playing out a 2-2 draw with Plateau United. Michael Adegbite scored twice for Doma United before Gideon Monday and Paul Samson scored for Plateau United to secure a share of the points.

In another encounter, Inter Lagos and Kano Pillars played out a 1-1 draw. Ubong Friday gave Kano Pillars the lead in the 33rd minute, while Bashir Abdulkarim equalised for Inter Lagos in the 75th minute.
