Promotion Shake-Up: Police Release Shortlist, Announce Date For Officers’ Exam
The Nigeria Police Force has scheduled a three-day promotion examination for serving Superintendents of Police (SPs) seeking elevation to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
The examination is expected to take place from Monday, September 28, to Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at designated venues across state commands and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the exercise followed approval by the Police Service Commission (PSC) in a letter dated September 21, 2026, referenced PSC/PROM/14316/I. The approval was subsequently communicated to various departments, formations, zonal commands and state commands through a Force Headquarters wireless message dated September 23.
The Inspector-General of Police directed all relevant formations to notify officers shortlisted for the examination and ensure they report to their designated command headquarters for the exercise.
Participating officers have been advised to prepare adequately by revising their knowledge of relevant laws, local acts and professional studies related to their duties.
Police authorities also directed commands to carefully screen the list of participants to ensure that only officers officially shortlisted for the exercise are permitted to take part.
The commands are expected to provide suitable examination venues and make the necessary logistical arrangements for officials of the Police Service Commission assigned to supervise the exercise.
Following the examination, all participating commands are required to submit comprehensive reports on the conduct of the exercise to the appropriate authorities on or before Friday, October 2, 2026.
The directive, marked “Treat as Very Important,” was circulated to several departments and specialised formations within the Nigeria Police Force. These include the Department of Operations, Finance and Administration, Logistics and Supply, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Training and Development, Research and Planning, Information and Communication Technology and Force Intelligence Department.
It also covers various police zones and state commands, including the FCT Command, as well as airport and port formations, border patrol units, counter-terrorism formations, the Police Air Wing, Force Communications, bomb disposal units and other specialised departments.
The list of shortlisted officers spans commands across the country, including Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara states.
A significant number of officers from the Federal Capital Territory are also expected to participate in the promotion exercise.
