In his post-match comments, Arteta admitted that his players urged him to introduce the 16-year-old into the game.
Nwaneri, making his first senior appearance of the season, came on as a substitute in the 77th minute, replacing Gabriel Martinelli.
Arteta confessed that he hadn’t initially planned to bring the teenager into the match.
He stated, “There’s something significant about earning the trust of your teammates. I noticed two things.
“Firstly, the players on the bench were quietly advocating for Ethan’s inclusion, which is a positive thing to hear.
“Secondly, when your teammates consistently pass you the ball, it signifies their trust in you. Judging by how frequently Ethan was involved, it’s evident. This is a promising sign.”
