Equatorial Guinea’s Baltasar Faces Prison After Being Accused Of Recording 400 S*x TapesBaltasar Engonga, the former Director-General of the National Financial Investigation Agency in Equatorial Guinea, has been remanded in custody at Malabo’s Black Beach Prison following his arrest on charges of fraud and misconduct. The 54-year-old economist, who was previously leading anti-corruption efforts in the country, came under investigation for alleged financial fraud when it was revealed he had recorded over 400 s*x tapes involving the wives of high-ranking officials.

As a result, Engonga was arrested and removed from his position by Equatorial Guinea’s President, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. A presidential decree, issued on November 4, 2024, cited “irregularities in his official duties” and “inappropriate family and social conduct” as reasons for his dismissal.
A video surfaced on November 8 showing Engonga in handcuffs, visibly shackled at his court appearance, which quickly went viral on social media. French news outlet Afrikmatin confirmed that Engonga was officially dismissed from his post on November 6 and has since been transferred to Malabo Central Prison. He faces serious charges, including corruption and embezzlement.
The scandal has rocked the political establishment in Equatorial Guinea, highlighting concerns about abuse of power among prominent figures in the country.
