A troubling incident has unfolded in Esan West Local Government as the local chairman faces arrest following accusations of violent behavior.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Mr. Imuensili Aifuobhokhan, a member of the APC from Illeh (Ward 10), along with others, reportedly sustained severe injuries inflicted by the chairman and his associates. The situation has led to several individuals being hospitalized, with some in critical condition. Notably, one victim is currently unable to speak due to the severity of the injuries. The incident also involved an assault on a woman, whose shop was destroyed during the altercation.
The chairman initially claimed that the violence was perpetrated by Akpakomiza’s supporters, despite the fact that Akpakomiza was actively campaigning in a different district. This allegation appears to be a deflection from the chairman’s own actions, driven by fears of losing support in his ward to Akpakomiza.
In a related event, the Chairman of Esan North East reportedly assaulted a young man from Uromi for his support of Senator Monday Okpebholo, leading to the man’s hospitalization and subsequent job loss.
Contrasts are drawn with the Chairman of Esan Central, who has publicly criticized Senator Okpebholo without facing arrest or violence. This suggests a troubling trend where those in power may feel emboldened to act with impunity against their own constituents.
The situation highlights a concerning disregard for the well-being of the people by some local government leaders. The message is clear: regardless of political position or influence, anyone engaging in violence or abuse will be held accountable. This serves as a precursor to a government committed to protecting the rights of all individuals, where no one, regardless of their status, is above the law.
For those in positions of power, particularly during election season, this should serve as a stern warning: violence and intimidation will not be tolerated.
