A key aide to former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has disclosed that the ex-minister remains committed to pursuing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with Sunday Punch, a senior ADC stakeholder noted that the former Rivers State governor has firmly set his sights on the presidency but cautioned that discussions regarding a vice-presidential slot are still premature.

The source stated, “ADC is looking to secure bloc votes from the North, and it may be strategic to field a candidate from that region. Amaechi’s focus is on the presidential ticket. However, politics is dynamic, and much could change as the primary approaches. Conversations about a running mate are not yet ripe—let’s wait.”

Meanwhile, an ally of Amaechi, speaking on condition of anonymity, emphasized the need for strategic calculation. “We have to be realistic: can Amaechi beat Atiku in the primary? If that seems unlikely, negotiating a deal beforehand might be wise. Accepting the role of Atiku’s running mate could be a practical move. Post-primary tensions will be high, so a pre-primary arrangement makes sense.”

He added, “Given the current landscape, will Obi challenge Atiku in the ADC primary? And if he fails to secure the ADC ticket, he is unlikely to accept a vice-presidential slot. That explains his delay in joining the party. By next year, the picture will be clearer, and Amaechi could emerge as the strongest option for Atiku as running mate.”
