The factional leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has officially submitted a 34-member list to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for recognition as the party’s Interim National Working Committee.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The submission was confirmed in a communiqué dated November 27, 2025, co-signed by Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and Interim National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha.

Addressed to INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, the letter was acknowledged by the commission on Friday, November 28, 2025.

In the accompanying cover letter, the Usman-led faction said its actions were guided by the party’s constitution and a National Executive Council (NEC) resolution of July 18, 2025, which, according to them, empowered the group to set up an interim national leadership structure.

Usman urged INEC to recognise the submitted list as the legitimate leadership of the Labour Party. She wrote, “We are pleased to forward the names and designations of the reconstituted members of the Interim National Leadership, in line with the LP constitution and the statutory NEC resolutions of July 18, 2025, already communicated to and acknowledged by the commission on July 21, 2025.”

She noted that the NEC had authorised the faction to “constitute the full body of the interim national leadership in line with Article 13 of the Labour Party constitution.”

The development comes just a day after a parallel NEC meeting convened by Julius Abure reaffirmed him as National Chairman.

The new submission reminded INEC that the Interim National Leadership was constituted based on the “statutory NEC resolutions of Friday, July 18, 2025,” consistent with the party’s constitutional provisions.

Usman appealed to INEC to officially recognise the forwarded names as the legitimate Interim National Working Committee of the Labour Party.

Aside from Usman and Nwokocha, the 34-member list features Deputy National Chairman (TUC) Mohammed Misau; Deputy National Chairman (Female) Mrs. Nike Oriola; and Deputy National Chairman (NLC) Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku.

Other members include Eragbe Anselem, Sarah Bago, Hajia Aishat Madije, Hamisu San Turaki, Ife Salako, Chinelo Oforche, Eric Ifere, Edwin Bafteng, Gloria George-Omunu, Joseph Ndirang, Aminu Kanya, Prof. Austin Akubue, Mrs. Martina Umana, and Femi Kehinde, among others.

The submission came less than 24 hours after another faction, led by Julius Abure, held a NEC meeting in Abuja, which was attended by INEC officials and former vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
