President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed his commitment to alleviate Nigeria’s escalating inflation rates during his address at the State House while hosting the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2024 Ramadan Iftar. Tinubu acknowledged the absence of a quick fix for the nation’s multifaceted challenges but pledged to rectify the economic hurdles faced by citizens under his administration.
Nigeria has witnessed a continuous surge in inflation since the discontinuation of the petrol subsidy regime and the unification of the exchange rate in 2023 during Tinubu’s tenure. According to recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria’s inflation escalated to 31.7 per cent in February 2024, rising from 29.9 per cent the previous month.
Despite these challenges, Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic prospects, noting improvements in revenue generation. He emphasized the necessity of hard work and dedication in fulfilling the promises made to Nigerians during his campaign.
Tinubu reassured Nigerians about the country’s economic trajectory, affirming efforts to mitigate inflation and enhance revenue streams. He highlighted the importance of self-reliance in addressing Nigeria’s issues and underscored the nation’s gradual restoration of respect and sovereignty globally.
Tinubu’s remarks echo a message of hope and resilience, emphasizing the collective effort required to overcome Nigeria’s economic challenges and restore prosperity.
