As part of the deal, President Tinubu also agreed to lift the state of emergency previously declared in the state, which had led to the suspension of the governor and the state House of Assembly. This move paves the way for Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, to resume their duties officially.

An associate of the governor confirmed to Western Post that although Fubara will return to power, his tenure will end after his current term, in line with the agreement.

Additionally, Governor Fubara has been asked to distance himself from certain allies believed to have encouraged his public fallout with Wike. These individuals include former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Austin Opara, and Senator Lee Meeba, among others.

In return, Wike’s loyalists in the state House of Assembly have been instructed to allow the governor to govern without interference and abandon any efforts to impeach him or his deputy.

Despite the difficult terms, Fubara called the resolution a divine intervention, expressing his commitment to maintaining peace in the state. He also urged his supporters to embrace the spirit of reconciliation.

The fallout between Fubara and Wike stemmed from a power tussle over political control in the oil-rich state. The crisis escalated, disrupted governance, and sparked violence, leading President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on March 18.
