Explosive Revelation: NNPP Reacts To Rumoured Kwankwaso-Tinubu 2027 Ticket

Factional leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, El-Jibril Doguwa and Hashimu Dungurawa, have urged the public to refrain from linking former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to speculations about being President Bola Tinubu’s potential running mate in the 2027 general elections.

The NNPP stalwarts also dismissed widespread rumours alleging Kwankwaso’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling such claims as “baseless political propaganda.”

In an interview with Sunday Punch, Senator Doguwa praised Kwankwaso’s political stature, emphasizing that the former Minister of Defence is “eminently qualified to hold any political office in the country.”

However, he cautioned against mounting undue pressure on President Tinubu regarding the selection of a new vice-presidential candidate.

“Let’s not push Mr. President into making a hasty decision that might not be in the country’s best interest. When the right time comes and he thoroughly evaluates the political landscape, everything will fall into place,” Doguwa said.

He further noted, “As it stands, Kwankwaso is not a member of the APC, while President Bola Tinubu is. There are also others within the APC who believe they’re equally qualified to serve as Vice President. Additionally, there’s the question of ticket balance—Muslim-Muslim or Muslim-Christian—which the President must carefully consider.”

Backing Doguwa’s stance, the second factional NNPP chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, dismissed the notion of Kwankwaso joining the APC, describing it as false and politically driven.

“There is absolutely no plan for Kwankwaso to join the APC,” Dungurawa asserted.

He acknowledged, however, that the growing rumours of a possible Tinubu-Kwankwaso ticket reflect Kwankwaso’s increasing political relevance and widespread public support.

“These speculations are fueled by the respect and goodwill our leader has earned over the years,” Dungurawa added.
