New Political Earthquake! Coalition Rallies Behind ADC, David Mark Emerges As Interim Chairman

It was also gathered that former Senate President, David Mark, has been selected to serve as the Interim National Chairman of the party.

Insiders who spoke with Punch confirmed that the decision was reached by top opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers).

The coalition is reportedly still searching for a suitable National Secretary, as former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Ben Obi both turned down the offer. Aregbesola reportedly cited age and his wife’s advice to slow down, while Obi declined without public comment.

One insider disclosed:

“We’ve all agreed to use ADC as our coalition party. That decision is final. David Mark has also accepted to serve as Interim National Chairman.
We planned to unveil everything this week, but Peter Obi requested time to consult with his supporters, including a sitting governor and several lawmakers.”

The source added that the coalition members will formally resign from their current political parties and migrate to ADC.

“Given the limited time and INEC’s reluctance to approve new parties, ADC was the most viable option. Talks have been ongoing for months.”

Loyalists of key coalition leaders have already begun joining the ADC, and the current party leadership is expected to step down to accommodate the incoming alliance figures.

A key meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday to resolve remaining matters, including the vacant National Secretary role.

Reacting to the developments, ADC’s current National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, praised David Mark’s leadership and expressed readiness to step aside for the greater good.

“I’m aware of the discussions — they’ve been ongoing for over 18 months. David Mark is disciplined, patriotic, and has the integrity to lead this party.
What we’re doing goes beyond partisan politics; it’s about rescuing Nigeria from the failures of the APC. If David Mark is leading the ADC, then I’m more than willing to step aside for the sake of the country.”
