Explosive Revelation: Okowa’s VP Candidacy Doomed PDP In 2023 – Senator Alleges

Senator Abba Moro, who represents Benue South in the National Assembly, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could have emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election if Atiku Abubakar had selected a different running mate instead of former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Tuesday, Moro described Okowa’s selection as a “grave error,” holding it responsible for the PDP’s underwhelming performance both in Delta State and nationwide.

He criticized Okowa for failing to secure Delta State for the PDP during the presidential election, despite being the sitting governor and Atiku’s running mate.

“With the benefit of hindsight, many of us believe the party would have stood a better chance if another individual from the South had been chosen as the vice presidential candidate,” Moro said.

He added, “How do you explain a situation where a sitting governor, a former senator, and the party’s vice presidential candidate couldn’t even win his own state for the presidential flagbearer? To make matters worse, two out of three senators from Delta were from opposition parties, not the PDP.”

Moro argued that Okowa’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) only proves his lack of true allegiance to the PDP.

“His heart was never with the PDP. He wasn’t invested in the campaign, and that explains why we performed so poorly in Delta State,” he stated.

Okowa and current Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori formally joined the APC on Monday, claiming the decision was in the best interest of Deltans and aimed at strengthening ties with the federal government in Abuja.

In reaction to Okowa’s post-defection remarks, Moro fumed: “Rather than apologise to the party and the Nigerian people, he’s now expressing regret over being on the PDP ticket.”
