Ezekwesili Questions Lack Of Accountability For Weapon Manufacturers Amid Terrorism

Former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili has raised concerns about the lack of accountability for manufacturers of the weapons used by terrorists in Nigeria and other African countries. Ezekwesili pointed out that weapons utilized by terrorists are not produced magically and that each weapon can be traced back to its manufacturer. She stated, “When we discuss violent extremism and terrorism across the continent, I am always baffled by where the weapons are coming from. Every weapon on this planet can be traced. So, beyond the actions we take against extremist groups, why are we not holding those who manufacture these weapons accountable?”

In addition, Ezekwesili called for the implementation of more policies and programs to strengthen democracy across the continent. She highlighted that democracy can only flourish when electoral systems are transparent and competent leaders are in place to address the social and economic challenges faced by African nations.

Ezekwesili also underscored that the SPPG program aims to cultivate young leaders from 20 African countries with the right mindset to enhance governance standards. She added, “Our goal is to correct not only the supply side by creating a school that develops a new generation of politicians who govern for the collective good rather than personal gain but also to provide political literacy to the demand side so that citizens understand their influence in determining the quality of governance.
