A Kano State High Court has sentenced Ayuba Sani Tumgafi to 10 years in a correctional centre for the killing of his friend, Ibrahim Dan Laraia, following a disagreement over waking up for the early morning Fajr prayer.

Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, presiding over High Court No. 1, delivered the judgment after hearing evidence presented during the trial by the prosecution and the defendant.

Court proceedings revealed that a disagreement broke out between Tumgafi and the deceased over waking up for the dawn prayer. The dispute reportedly escalated and ultimately resulted in Ibrahim’s death.

During the trial, the prosecution counsel, Amina Uba Adamu, presented three witnesses and three exhibits to support the case against the defendant. Tumgafi also had the opportunity to defend himself against the charge.

After considering the evidence before the court, Justice Aboki found Tumgafi guilty of the offence and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

The court further directed the convict to pursue both Islamic and Western education while serving his sentence, underscoring the importance of education and personal development during his time in custody.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the judgment brings a legal conclusion to the case involving the fatal disagreement between the two friends over the early morning prayer.
