Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked a commercial vehicle travelling towards Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing passengers on board, according to a conflict reporter covering Nigeria’s North-West region.

The incident was disclosed by conflict reporter Bakatsine in a post on X, where he said the attackers intercepted the vehicle as passengers were returning home from Sokoto, the state capital.

The exact number of people killed in the attack has not been confirmed, while the identities of victims whose photographs were shared online remain unverified.

According to Bakatsine, some of the passengers were reportedly among the 3,000 people recently recruited by the Sokoto State Government who had been invited to the state capital for further screening and the collection of their documents.

He alleged that the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, killing those inside. However, details surrounding the incident, including the precise number of victims and their identities, remain unclear.

In his account, Bakatsine expressed concern over the persistent insecurity affecting road users in the region and questioned how long residents would continue to travel in fear of attacks.

He also expressed condolences to the families of those reportedly killed, praying for the deceased and asking for strength for their loved ones to endure the loss.

The reported incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of travellers along roads in Sokoto State, particularly in communities affected by recurring attacks attributed to armed groups.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the reported attack remains a developing security incident, and the casualty figures and identities of the victims have yet to be independently confirmed.
