Edo State Police Command has apprehended two counterfeit police inspectors involved in a drug operation worth N20 million.

Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, revealed that they were part of a five-member criminal syndicate specializing in narcotics.

The arrested individuals, Alex Akaeze, 39, and Kadiri Hassan, 45, along with their accomplices, were caught with 1,080 kilograms of ‘ice’ at a guest house in Benin City. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will face legal action soon.

Akaeze claimed to be a serving Police Inspector since 2009, despite being unassigned to duty at Alagbon, Lagos State. Similarly, Hassan, who joined the force in 2008, had not reported to duty at Alagbon since his transfer in February.

Ovie Samuel, one of the drug procurers, denied involvement in the trade, stating he was misled by the purported officers. The incident underscores the vigilance of law enforcement in combating drug-related crimes in the region.
