Her death, which remains under police investigation, has generated widespread public attention and calls for a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to reports, Habila was found dead at the minister’s residence on June 27, 2026. Claims circulating about the circumstances in which her body was discovered have not been independently verified, while authorities have yet to conclude their investigation.

In a funeral announcement released by the family, Habila was born on September 18, 2000, and died at the age of 26.

The family said her funeral service is scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Deeper Life Bible Church in Nok, Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Relatives, friends, colleagues, church members, and other sympathisers are expected to gather in Nok to pay their final respects to the late healthcare professional, whose death has left her family and community in mourning.

Meanwhile, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has called for a coroner’s inquest into Habila’s death.

In a post on his social media page, Sowore argued that the circumstances surrounding her death should be subjected to an independent investigation before burial.

He urged the relevant authorities to complete all necessary forensic procedures, including an autopsy where required by law.

“There MUST be a coroner’s inquest into the death of Mary Habila at the residence of Tinubu’s Minister of Works, David Umahi,” Sowore wrote.
