As reported by LIB, the kidnapping occurred on December 27, 2023, at the National Eye Centre Quarters in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Despite the family’s efforts to negotiate a reduction in the ransom, the abductors remained adamant about the N100 million amount, with a family source revealing that the kidnappers made the demand four days after the abduction.
The family source, speaking anonymously to Punch, disclosed that the kidnappers had specifically threatened to harm the couple if the N100 million was not paid by January 18. The kidnappers renewed their demand on January 26, warning that the victims would face dire consequences if the ransom was not promptly paid.
Despite the family’s attempts to secure a more manageable sum, such as N20 million, the kidnappers refused any compromise. The distressed family has reached out to both the police and Air Force authorities, who assured them of ongoing efforts to secure the victims’ release without causing harm.
Expressing the family’s plea for assistance, the source highlighted the emotional toll of the prolonged abduction, appealing to the Nigerian government to intervene in securing the release of their loved ones. The family emphasized their inability to raise the exorbitant N100 million demanded by the kidnappers.
When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the efforts being made by the command to ensure the safe release of the abducted individuals. He assured that the police are actively working to rescue victims in various kidnapping cases, emphasizing the commitment to minimizing casualties during rescue operations.
