Three survivors of the accident are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. The incident reportedly occurred around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

Eyewitness Anthony Ogah recounted that the collision took place at Abule Osun, near Iyana Iba, when a Toyota Sienna bus, registered as BDG 342 FS and packed to capacity with passengers from the eastern region, collided at high speed with a stationary SHACMAN truck that bore no visible registration number.

Femí Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident, attributing it to excessive speeding. Investigations indicated that the truck, loaded with granite, was parked on the road, obstructing about half of the carriageway. The speeding Toyota Sienna crashed into the rear of the parked truck.

“Tragically, ten passengers lost their lives in this incident, and three others sustained critical injuries. One of the two initially surviving female adults later succumbed to her injuries. The deceased include three male adults, four female adults, two female children, and one male child,” Oke-Osanyitolu reported.

He added that the surviving female adult and the two rescued children received immediate medical attention from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) at the scene before being transferred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja for further treatment.

Emergency responders, including LASEMA and officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured passengers.
