During his Independence Day address on Tuesday, President Tinubu announced plans for a National Youth Conference aimed at addressing the various challenges and opportunities facing young people. He emphasized that the conference would foster meaningful dialogue and empower the youth, who make up over 60% of the population, to engage actively in nation-building.

However, Debo Adeniran, spokesperson for the CDHR, stated in a release that such a conference would yield no positive outcomes. He asserted that President Tinubu does not need to hold another youth conference, as the youth have already made their demands clear.

Adeniran emphasized that the current administration should focus on addressing the issues raised during the #EndSARS and #EndBadGovernance protests. He criticized the planned conference as a potential waste of limited resources and pointed out that the youth are calling for the reinstatement of fuel subsidies to alleviate their hardships.

He further suggested that if the government cannot restore the subsidy, it should ensure that the benefits of the revenue generated positively impact the lives of citizens. Adeniran called for grants and additional scholarships for students, advocating for completely free education at least for primary and secondary levels to ease the financial burdens on families.
