Police Public Relations Officer ASP Maureen Chinaka revealed that the accident claimed the lives of two passengers instantly, with another succumbing to injuries in the hospital, bringing the total death toll to three.

According to the PPRO, the Isuochi Police Divisional Headquarters received a distress call regarding a fatal motor accident along the Port Harcourt-Enugu Expressway, near Lekwesi Umuchieze. Investigation unveiled that around 7:45 pm, a Mack truck with registration number KGE 22, driven by Amaechi Chucks Nwankwo, lost control while navigating a slope in the area. In an attempt to halt the truck’s descent, Nwankwo inadvertently plowed through two military barricades before colliding with a stationary bus at a police checkpoint, resulting in the fatalities and injuring five others.

The injured were promptly transported to Christ the King Hospital at Ngodo Isuochi, though tragically, one victim succumbed to their injuries. The deceased passengers’ bodies were respectfully moved to the mortuary, while the discharged patients have been released from medical care.

The statement concluded with assurance that the accident scene has been cleared, the truck driver detained, and investigations ongoing to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident. Patrols and monitoring efforts persist to ensure safety in the area.
