He highlighted that transportation forms part of the palliative measures initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to alleviate the hardships faced by the general population.

Wike stated, “Transportation is a key sector that I intend to rapidly transform to enhance public commuting and alleviate traffic congestion in a short timeframe.”

He raised concerns about the non-operational state of the existing metro station in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of restoring it swiftly.

Wike emphasized the significance of completing ongoing projects before initiating new ones to inspire public confidence.

“It is not advisable to embark on new rail projects when an existing one remains unfinished. Every project commenced must reach its conclusion before undertaking new endeavors, taking into account available resources,” he emphasized.

Addressing CCECC Nig. Ltd, the construction firm responsible for rail projects, Wike urged them to deliver high-quality outcomes.

He assured that the necessary funds were allocated for the rehabilitation and directed the permanent secretary of FCT Administration, Mr Adesola Olusade, to ensure timely payments to the contractor.

He affirmed, “We are committed to completing and commissioning this project for public use in the coming months.”

Dr Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for FCT, highlighted the significance of assessing and resolving challenges within the rail transport system to enhance its operational efficiency.

“The transportation system is among the palliative measures President Bola Tinubu seeks to provide for the public. Our visit to the ARMT Metro Station is aimed at understanding existing conditions, identifying challenges, and outlining the ministry’s role in advancing the transportation system,” she stated.

Prior to the visit, the Permanent Secretary of FCTA, Mr Olusade Adesola, praised Wike’s reputation as a skilled project manager.

Adesola commended his commitment to project oversight, exemplified by his choice to visit a project site as his first task beyond the office.
