FCT Police Personnel Threaten October 1 Strike Over Allegations Of N30,000 Monthly Entitlement Withheld By Superiors

According to the officers, police personnel in other state commands have been receiving an additional N1,000 in their salaries since January 2024, but this has not been reflected in the pay for FCT command. They have threatened to initiate a strike on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, if their concerns are not addressed and if they do not receive the full N40,000 increment.

“We are aware of the salary increase that was implemented, with several agencies receiving a flat rate of N40,000, while commands like Niger State and FCT only provide a N10,000 increase,” one officer told SaharaReporters.

Another officer added, “Regarding the recent increment for federal government workers, we, as police constables, have only received an additional N10,000, unlike other agencies. We urge the President to recognize our plight; many of us have families depending on us, and N77,000 isn’t even enough to buy a bag of rice.

“If other agencies can pay N40,000 regardless of rank, there’s no reason why the Nigeria Police Force, which we consider the mother of all forces, should only allocate N10,000 to constables, treating us as if we are beggars.”

The officers emphasized that if their issues remain unresolved, they are prepared to go on a nationwide strike starting October 1, as they can no longer endure the ongoing injustices. They also highlighted that the FCT Command has failed to add the additional N1,000 to their salaries for the past nine months, while their counterparts in other states have been receiving this increase since January.

When reached for comment, the FCT Police Command Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, directed inquiries to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. However, as of the time of this report, Adejobi had not answered calls or responded to messages.
