FCTA Allocates N1.7bn To Launch State-Of-The-Art Smart Secondary School

Represented by the Mandate Secretary, Education Secretariat, FCTA, Dr Danlami Hayyo, Wike highlighted the initiative’s aim to align with global trends in digital education. The smart school, set to be situated in Karshi under the Abuja Municipal Area Council, will boast state-of-the-art boarding and digital facilities, emphasizing e-teaching and learning.

The earmarked N1.7 billion forms part of the N13.1 billion approved for renovating, rehabilitating, and constructing new schools in the FCT in 2024. Minister Wike expressed optimism that, if successful, the project would expand to other schools across the territory, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of education.

The envisioned smart school in Karshi is poised to revolutionize traditional teaching methods, with a focus on digital tools such as computers, internet services, smart boards, and other digital devices for an immersive e-teaching and learning experience.

Wike emphasized the necessity of moving away from traditional tools like papers and pens in the realm of digital education. He anticipates that the establishment of the smart school in Karshi will serve as a catalyst, paving the way for the implementation of similar smart schools throughout the FCT.

In addition to the exciting development of the smart school, Minister Wike lauded the academic achievements of public school students in the FCT. He commended the dedication and hard work demonstrated by the students, attributing their success to the collective efforts of teachers and the support of their families.

The minister underscored the significance of a balanced and holistic education, acknowledging the role of sports in instilling values such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. He encouraged a commitment to providing quality education that empowers the youth for a brighter future.

Dr Mohammed Ladan, Director of the Secondary School Management Board, echoed Wike’s sentiments, praising public school students for exceptional performances in national, regional, and international competitions. Ladan emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating student achievements to motivate continued excellence.

While expressing gratitude for the commitment of teachers to delivering quality education, Ladan also appealed to the minister to consider providing full employment for teachers currently on the payroll of the Parents Teachers Association.

Highlighting specific successes, Mrs Funmi Jemisenia from the Department of Science, Technology, and Innovations noted the remarkable achievements of public junior and senior secondary schools in quiz competitions throughout 2023. Similarly, Mr Adamu Ojah, Director of the Department of School Sport, celebrated the students’ victories and accolades in various national and international school sports competitions.
