Starting around 12:30 a.m. and lasting for about 25 minutes until 12:55 a.m., the gentle rain showered parts of the FCT including Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, and Garki in Abuja Municipal Area Council. Additionally, areas such as Dutse, Zuba, Bwari, Gwagwalada, and Mararaba also experienced the rainfall.

Residents shared mixed reactions to the precipitation. Some, like Mrs. Anna Jonah from Kubwa, found relief from the heatwave that had lingered for days. The sudden downpour brought a temporary respite, allowing residents to enjoy a cool atmosphere and a peaceful night’s sleep. Mrs. Jonah recounted how the rain provided relief after enduring the discomfort of the heat, allowing her and her husband to rest more comfortably.

However, concerns lingered among some residents about the impact of the light rain. Mrs. Jonah expressed worry that if such light rainfall persisted without substantial follow-up showers, it could exacerbate the heat in the coming days. With the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) predicting a delay in rainfall for North-Central states, including the FCT, residents remained cautious about the potential consequences of sporadic rain patterns.

As the FCT experienced its first rainfall of 2024, residents hoped for more consistent precipitation to alleviate the prevailing heat and usher in the rainy season in earnest, providing much-needed relief from the sweltering conditions.
