Professor Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, made this announcement to State House correspondents following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Mamman stated that the primary goal of this policy update is to address issues related to contract awards and align government procedures with the existing Public Procurement Act.
He emphasized that this shift will enable the Federal Executive Council to concentrate on matters of national policy significance.
The minister explained, “The Federal Executive Council has often been perceived by the media and members as an institution that awards contracts.
Today, the council made a significant decision to reconsider the policy in this direction, ensuring that the Public Procurement Act is fully implemented in the handling of projects and government activities in Nigeria.”
