Federal Government Highlights Lack Of Information Sharing Among Security Agencies

Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, expressed concern over the lack of information-sharing among Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies, warning that this gap in coordination could weaken efforts to combat crime nationwide.
Speaking at a workshop in Abuja on October 29, aimed at enhancing inter-agency collaboration, Gaidam stressed the urgent need for security agencies to unify their approach. He noted that since assuming office in August 2023, he has observed a lack of effective information-sharing practices among agencies, which often operate independently in intelligence matters.
“With the increasing security challenges facing our country, there has never been a more critical time to strengthen inter-agency cooperation through shared intelligence,” Gaidam stated. He recommended implementing a framework similar to the West African Police Information System (WAPIS) in Nigeria to streamline this process.
The workshop follows recent tensions among security forces, including a clash last week in Osogbo, Osun State, between Nigeria Police Force officers and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel.
