Federal Government Names 15 Assistant Comptrollers General And 95 Comptrollers For Nigeria Immigration ServiceThe Federal Government has announced the appointment of 15 new Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs) for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and has promoted an additional 95 officers to the rank of Comptroller.
These changes are part of a broader promotion initiative affecting 13,977 immigration personnel. During a decoration ceremony in Abuja on Friday, Ahmed Ja’afaru, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), highlighted that five officers received special promotions for their exceptional performance, including one officer recognized for executing a project that resulted in significant cost savings for the Service.
Ja’afaru emphasized the historic nature of these promotions, stating, “This is the first time in NIS history that such a large number of officers have been promoted. Many have remained in their positions for as long as 10 years due to a lack of available vacancies. This issue of stagnation has now been addressed under the current leadership of the Minister of Interior.”
He added that among the five officers granted special promotions was one who completed a project that would have otherwise incurred substantial costs if outsourced to external consultants.
Comptroller General of the Immigration Service (CGIS), Kemi Nandap, praised the government’s commitment to career advancement within the Service, stating that these promotions will effectively eliminate career stagnation. “Stagnation is now a thing of the past in the NIS, made possible by the CDCFIB under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo,” she remarked.
Nandap acknowledged the Board’s efforts to ensure a fair, transparent, and timely promotion process. “The 2024 promotion exercise is historic, with 13,977 personnel promoted. This mass promotion sends a strong message about our dedication to rewarding excellence and fostering a motivated and capable workforce, ready to meet the challenges of a modern world,” she added.
The promotions include 6,697 officers advancing from Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI2) to ACG, and 7,280 personnel promoted from Immigration Assistant II (IA2) to Inspector of Immigration (II), as reported by Naija News.
