The federal government has unveiled the roster of members for the newly constituted minimum wage committee tasked with proposing a revised national minimum wage for the country. The statement, signed by Director of Information, Segun Imohiosen, disclosed that the inauguration ceremony will take place at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja, starting at 12:00 noon. Members are urged to arrive early for security clearance, with a seating time of 11:30 am.
The initiation of the Committee follows the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The diverse membership includes representatives from the Federal Government, State Governments, Private Sector, and Organized Labour.
From the Federal Government, notable members include Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Hon. Minister of State, Labour and Employment; Mr. Wale Edun, Hon. Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, Hon. Minister of Budget Economic Planning; Dr. (Mrs) Yemi Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, Permanent Secretary, GSO. OSGF; and Ekpo Nta, Esq, Chairman/CEO, NSIWC – Member/Secretary.
Representatives from State Governments include governors such as Alh. Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger State), Sen. Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State), Alh. Umar Dikko Radda (Katsina State), Prof. Charles Soludo (Anambra State), Sen. Ademola Adeleke (Osun State), and Mr. Otu Bassey Edet (Cross River State).
The private sector is represented by individuals from organizations like the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), the Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (NASME), and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).
The organized labor segment includes members from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).
The comprehensive composition of the committee demonstrates a balanced representation from various sectors, setting the stage for a thorough and inclusive review of the national minimum wage.
