Contrary to popular opinion, Falana clarified that the Court of Appeal in Abuja actually upheld Yusuf’s election, overturning the previous decision of the lower tribunal.

During an appearance on the Arise News Primetime Show, Falana disclosed that upon examining the Certified True Copy of the judgment, he was taken aback by the discrepancies.

According to him, the majority judgment nullified the lower court’s verdict, granted costs in favor of Yusuf, and endorsed all the reliefs sought by the governor.

Falana not only advocated a return to the recommendations of the Justice Uwais Electoral Committee but also underscored the importance of establishing a uniform standard to ensure elections truly reflect the people’s will.

Expressing criticism for the practice of holding individuals accountable for the mistakes of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, Falana called for the creation of an Independent Electoral Offences Commission.

Additionally, he proposed the restructuring of INEC to specialize in election conduct, with a separate commission dedicated to handling electoral offenses and overseeing political party regulations.
