The PDP governors, led by their forum chairman, Senator Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, expressed deep concern at a meeting of the party’s BoT. Senator Mohammed emphasized the prevailing economic hardships, hunger, and perceived lack of effective governance in Nigeria. He pledged that the PDP would provide a robust opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP BoT attributed the severe economic challenges, soaring costs of essential goods, and alarming food scarcity to poorly implemented policies of the APC administration, resulting in unrest and agitation in different regions of the country.

In a swift response, the Federal Government, represented by the Minister of Information & National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris, accused the PDP governors of grandstanding and failing to utilize increased federal allocations to improve the well-being of their constituents. The minister highlighted instances of PDP-led states accumulating salary and pension arrears while allegedly neglecting agricultural development, only to shift blame to the Federal Government.

On the contrary, the Labour Party (LP) sided with the PDP, concurring that the APC had detrimentally affected Nigeria’s economy.

Amidst these clashes, the PDP confirmed Senator Adolphus Wabara as the chairman of its BoT and appointed former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, as secretary. PDP leaders vowed to address internal conflicts, presenting a formidable opposition to thwart the alleged APC agenda to establish a one-party state, asserting that the demise of the PDP would endanger democracy in Nigeria.

Senator Adolphus Wabara, acting National Chairman of the PDP Board, stressed the interconnectedness of Nigeria’s democracy and the survival of the PDP. He warned of purported efforts by the APC-led government to impose a one-party system and asserted the PDP’s commitment to leading Nigerians against such a development.

The PDP leadership, recognizing the importance of solidarity, urged its members to confront challenges, reconcile internal differences, and take necessary actions to rebuild the party for effective performance. National Chairman of the PDP, Amb. Umar Damagum, emphasized the need for collective responsibility in rebuilding the party.
