Eyewitnesses recounted that Femi stood on the Gbodofon bridge along Osogbo/Gbongan road around 10:30 am and leaped into the river. A vulcanizer working nearby, who preferred anonymity, described witnessing Femi walk down from the Old Governor’s Office end of the road and plunge into the river from the middle of the bridge.

“I was at a nearby spot working on a customer’s tyre when I saw him. He stood there for a while before jumping. People around were terrified after the incident,” the vulcanizer said.

Confirming the incident, Ibrahim Adekunle, spokesperson of the Osun State Fire Service, stated that emergency responders were alerted promptly. However, due to the river’s high water level, efforts to recover Femi’s body were ongoing but had not been successful by the evening.

Kehinde Adeleke, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osun State Command, identified the victim as Femi, noting that earlier in the day, Femi had allegedly attempted suicide at a fast-food joint in the OgoOluwa area after being assaulted by unidentified individuals. Despite initial intervention to dissuade him, Femi returned to the bridge and took his fatal plunge.
