Fireboy Opens Up On Scary Lagos Experience: I Saw Dead Bodies And Cultists

Afrobeats singer Fireboy DML has opened up about his early experience in Lagos, recalling how several disturbing encounters left him frightened shortly after relocating to the city to pursue his dream of becoming a musician.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the singer said he moved to Lagos in 2016 and initially found life in the city intimidating, particularly because of the unfamiliar environment and some of the people he encountered.

Speaking during a recent livestream, Fireboy recalled that he was living in Surulere when he witnessed incidents that shocked him, including seeing someone allegedly experiencing a mental health crisis and encountering dead bodies on the streets. He also mentioned cultists and said the general appearance of some Lagos residents contributed to his initial fear.

The singer, however, explained that he refused to abandon his ambitions and eventually adapted to the lifestyle and environment of the city.

Reflecting on the experience, Fireboy said he was extremely frightened when he first arrived in Lagos but gradually became accustomed to his surroundings, joking that he now looks like some of the people who initially scared him.

The singer has also previously spoken about another incident that caused concern among members of his family after he posted a photo on his Instagram Story showing him with a cigarette in his mouth.

Fireboy explained that the post was intended as part of a showbiz presentation, but his family reportedly reacted strongly after seeing the image in their WhatsApp group. He said his mother became emotional and started crying, forcing him to reassure his relatives that the cigarette was part of his public image and was not intended to alarm them.

However, the singer admitted that although he initially told his family it was simply part of the act, he eventually smoked the cigarette.

Fireboy’s revelations offer a glimpse into some of the experiences he encountered while transitioning from his hometown to Lagos and pursuing a career in the Nigerian music industry.
