In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Olushoga Olushola, Folawiyo clarified that he merely responded to an invitation by the Commission regarding a petition allegedly filed by political opponents.
According to the statement, the council boss described the petition as a politically motivated ploy designed to tarnish his image and distract attention ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos State.
“I was not arrested. I received an invitation and honoured it in good faith,” Folawiyo stated. “This is clearly the work of detractors trying to smear my reputation. However, I remain focused on fulfilling my mandate to serve the people of Lagos Island East.”
He emphasized that his engagement with the ICPC was straightforward and routine, during which he fully cooperated with officials.
The statement further noted that Folawiyo has since resumed his official duties and remains unwavering in his commitment to the development and welfare of his constituents.
“As a law-abiding and responsible citizen, Hon. Folawiyo honoured the ICPC’s invitation and participated professionally in the session, confident that the truth would prevail,” Olushola added.
Folawiyo also urged the public—especially residents of Lagos Island East—to ignore what he called “misleading and sensationalised media reports,” reassuring them that there is no cause for concern.
“I remain dedicated to good governance. I sincerely appreciate your prayers, support, and encouragement,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, Folawiyo assured constituents that his focus remains firmly on driving progress and inclusive development across the council area.
