Egungbohun, also known as IBD Dende, gained notoriety as a smuggler based in Ogun State, following investigations by FIJ’s Fisayo Soyombo.

FIJ’s inquiries uncovered the operations of the serial smuggler and revealed his connections to top officials in the Nigeria Customs Service, enabling him to exert influence over customs officers.

Salako, hailing from Yewaland in Ogun State like IBD Dende, previously served as a commissioner for health in the state.

On March 3, IBD Dende’s birthday, Salako, now a minister in Tinubu’s government, shared a digital flyer featuring IBD Dende’s image and detailed his personal relationship with the smuggler.

The post sparked criticism from Twitter users who found it inappropriate for a public official.

One user, @SamdGreat01, commented, “Isn’t this the same IBD Dende implicated in Fisayo’s undercover smuggling operation? A Nigerian minister appears to openly associate with criminal activities.”

Another user, @oluobamzy, questioned, “How can a federal minister proudly showcase their relationship despite the accusations? Does this signify disregard for public opinion?”
