The plea came during a visit by the Minister of Water Resources, Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, to the Government House in Kano as part of his familiarization tour. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, highlighted that Kano State relies on 21 dams for irrigation purposes.
He expressed concerns about the deteriorating condition of some of these dams, which, if not repaired, could lead to flooding and pose threats to lives and property in various areas. The government has formed a committee to assess the state of these dams.
The governor appealed to the minister for support in addressing these issues, emphasizing that the dams play a crucial role in the state’s economic development by facilitating irrigation farming and creating job opportunities for the local population.
