Former DSS Director Attributes 2012 Protest’s Peaceful Nature To President’s Stance And Better Conditions

Mike Ejiofor, a former DSS Director, recently highlighted the peaceful nature of the 2012 anti-subsidy protests, attributing it to President Goodluck Jonathan’s approach and the relatively better conditions at the time. Speaking on an Arise TV show, Ejiofor noted that the protesters were orderly partly due to the president’s supportive stance and because the situation was less dire compared to now.

He urged current President Bola Tinubu to engage directly with grassroots Nigerians and suggested a national broadcast to address citizens. Ejiofor emphasized that while peaceful protests are a constitutional right, there’s a risk they could be exploited by those seeking to incite violence due to widespread economic hardship.
