Former House Speaker Dogara Announces His Salary Details....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara has disclosed the total allowance and salary he received during his tenure as a lawmaker. Speaking at the House of Representatives open week celebration in Abuja, Dogara revealed that as the Speaker of the 8th Assembly, his total allowance amounted to ₦25 million, while his salary was ₦400,000.

Dogara highlighted the need for this clarification due to the widespread misconception that members of the National Assembly receive exorbitant salaries and allowances. He stressed the importance of allowing Nigerian Representatives to work effectively without the burden of excessive financial scrutiny.

The former lawmaker pointed out that negative perceptions about the National Assembly, fueled by misconceptions about their earnings, have led to unwarranted accusations of theft against its members in public forums.

“While I was Speaker, my salary was ₦400,000, and my total allowance was ₦25 million. I instructed my accountant to open a separate account for the allowances, and I never once took any money from that account. Everything that went into that account was used to cater to the needs of my constituents.

“My accountant complained about the high demand on the account, and I told him if the money there is exhausted, borrow, and when funds are available, return what was borrowed.

“I am sharing this so Nigerians will understand and give their legislators breathing space, knowing that the narrative about members’ pay is not true,” Dogara noted.
