Former IPAC Chairman Detained By Police For Calling For Defence Minister Matawalle’s Suspension

The former chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Cross River State, Goddie Akpama, was apprehended by Nigerian Police operatives for advocating the suspension and arrest of Bello Metawalle, the Minister of Defence. Policemen arrived at the venue just before the scheduled news event, instructing its cancellation and subsequently arresting Akpama, a former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA).

The group, through a prepared statement, expressed concerns about the minister facing substantial money laundering allegations amounting to over N70 billion without undergoing due investigations. They criticized the perceived bias in dispensing justice and called on President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate government impartiality.

The statement read, “We assert our collective demand for justice and equity within the political sphere. We express profound concern regarding the discernible bias in dispensing justice and the evident gender disparities prevailing in Nigeria’s political landscape.”

The group highlighted the suspension and investigation of Dr. Betta Edu over N585 million lodged in a private account and urged a similar course of action for Metawalle. The police, originating from the State Housing Police Division, refused to release Akpama and provided no explanation for his arrest.
