UK Court Orders James Ibori’s Lawyer To Pay £28 Million Or Risk Jail Term Extension

Bhadresh Gohil, a former lawyer to Delta State’s ex-Governor James Ibori, has been ordered by a UK court to pay £28 million for his role in hiding illegally acquired funds.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Gohil, an Indian national, was convicted in 2010 on 13 counts of money laundering and related offences connected to assisting Ibori in concealing proceeds from criminal activities.

The UK court has now directed Gohil to pay the substantial sum or face an additional six years in prison, as reported by Reuters.

Meanwhile, James Ibori has responded to reports about the possibility of a fresh ten-year jail term and the UK court’s order to seize over £100 million from him.

British authorities had accused Ibori of stealing public funds and money laundering through UK banks and properties. The trial for confiscation proceedings against Ibori began in February 2017.

Ibori expressed astonishment at the ongoing legal battles and the repeated allegations against him.

Despite facing logic-defying rulings and evidence of police corruption in his case, he had maintained hope in the pursuit of justice and fairness throughout the decade-long legal ordeal.
