Former Leader Abdulsalami Alerts FG To Escalating Hardship In Nigeria

Former military head of state General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd) has expressed concern over the escalating economic hardship in Nigeria and urged the government to take immediate action.

Speaking at his residence in Minna during a birthday visit from the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights, led by Abdullahi Mohammed Jabi, General Abdulsalami stated, “The hardship in the country is spiraling out of control.” He highlighted the struggles faced by Nigerians, including the inability to afford basic necessities such as food, transportation, and rising school fees, alongside the general lack of financial resources.

He emphasized, “Everyone is lamenting the current conditions. With the increase in fuel prices, transportation costs, and other living expenses, life has become increasingly difficult for many Nigerians.”

General Abdulsalami urged all levels of government to implement measures to alleviate the economic strain, noting that palliatives alone would not suffice. He suggested that the government should consider directly providing affordable food to communities to ease the burden on citizens.

“We have recommended to the government that simply offering palliatives is insufficient to address the high prices of food and other essential items. Instead, the government should work to supply communities with food at reduced prices to make it more accessible,” he added.
