Recently, elders, stakeholders, and residents of Uyo Senatorial District expressed confidence in Governor Umo Eno’s performance and advocated for his reelection. However, Chief Essien urged caution, stating that an eight-year tenure should be earned through exemplary performance in the first term.

Addressing reporters in Eket, Essien stressed that it is premature to embark on a second term campaign for Governor Umo Eno. He emphasized the importance of allowing the governor to concentrate on his responsibilities and be evaluated based on his achievements before considering reelection.

Furthermore, Essien criticized the prevailing gerontocracy in Nigerian governance, advocating for older leaders to transition into advisory roles rather than seeking active leadership positions. He argued that younger, more vibrant individuals are better suited to lead in the modern era.

Expressing concern over the dominance of a single political party, Essien urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rejuvenate and strategize effectively to counter the ruling party’s influence. He cautioned against underestimating the potential for a third political force to emerge, citing the significant discontent with existing political parties.
