Former Naval Chief Jibrin Faces Arrest As Court Issues Warrant

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has issued an arrest warrant against former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, and two others in connection with an alleged N1.5 billion money laundering case brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The motion for the arrest warrant was filed by ICPC counsel, Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, citing allegations of money laundering and false statements regarding fund diversion into companies linked to the defendants.

Despite being released on administrative bail, the defendants, including Jibrin, Adam Imam Yusuf, and Brigadier General Ishaya Gangum Bauka, failed to appear for arraignment, prompting the court to issue the arrest warrant.

The charges involve a total of six defendants and 17 counts, including allegations against companies allegedly linked to the defendants.

The case highlights ongoing efforts to address corruption within Nigeria’s military and paramilitary institutions, underscoring the importance of accountability and transparency in public service.
