Former Zamfara State Leaders Unite To Address Growing Insecurity Concerns

Four former Zamfara State governors reportedly convened in Abuja over the weekend to strategize on addressing the persistent security challenges gripping the state. Zamfara, like other northern states, has suffered from the disruptive activities of bandits, terrorists, and various criminal factions, resulting in significant setbacks to its socio-economic landscape and infrastructure.

The closed-door meeting, held at Matawalle’s residence in Abuja, aimed to explore sustainable solutions to the ongoing security crisis plaguing the state. Attended by former governors Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, Alhaji Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the gathering also delved into discussions regarding the status of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara and the imperative of strengthening the party’s presence in the state.

While specifics of the meeting were not disclosed, it was reported that the session lasted for over three hours into the night. Sources familiar with the discussions revealed that Matawalle, in his capacity as the defence minister, reiterated his commitment to collaborating with his counterparts to combat banditry in Zamfara State.

The primary focus of the meeting was to devise strategies to mitigate the escalating insecurity in Zamfara, with the overarching goal of fostering socio-economic progress, advancing education, and improving healthcare infrastructure in the state.
